Signing up to the platform is free, and gigs can be posted for free, so if you're already a freelancer and are looking to expand to new platforms, Fiverr is worth checking out.
If you're not sure if Fiverr is right for you, you should check out expert reviews. Then, learn what it's like to actually work on the platform by reading the experiences of those who have done so.
Important! Before creating your first gig, you should experiment with how buyers view gigs so you can figure out how to create one that stands out!

1. Create a Fiverr account

Before you can post your first gig, you'll need to create an account. You can sign up using your Facebook account, Google account, or email address. After choosing how to create an account, you'll need to choose your username and create a password or enter an email address. Once your account is created, simply go to your inbox, activate it, and fill out your profile.
2. Set up your Fiverr profile

The first thing most buyers will check before paying for one of your gigs is your profile. Fiverr will ask you to include a photo and several key pieces of information, allowing potential buyers to get to know you a little better.
Tips for improving your Fiverr profile
Make sure you create a profile that meets every single aspect:
- Profile picture: Include a professional-looking photo of your real face. This will help give potential buyers confidence that you're a real person and make your profile appear more professional.
- Description: Use this section to introduce yourself to potential buyers. You can include your areas of expertise, experience, or anything else you think is important—keep it relevant!
- Languages: Let others know what languages you speak and your level; this is incredibly important if your gig involves skills like writing or translation.
- Tests Completed: This section of your profile will display any tests you've completed through Fiverr. Tests help assess your skills and can boost a potential buyer's confidence. Just be careful, as you can only take a test twice every three months; however, Fiverr gives you the option to hide your test scores if you perform poorly.
- Skills: Here you should include all the skills applicable to the gigs you intend to create. These include skills you've acquired through past jobs, hobbies, or other life experiences. Fiverr only allows ten, so choose wisely.
- Education: Include where you attended college and your degrees.
- Certifications: List any additional certifications that can help you stand out from the crowd.
3. Create a gig on Fiverr

Once your profile is set up, you can start creating your first gig! To do so, go to the "Switch to Seller" menu at the top of the screen and select the "Gigs" option. From there, simply click the "CREATE A NEW GIG" button to start the process.
Write the overview of your gig

The first section you'll need to complete is the Gig Overview. Here, you'll be asked to fill out three boxes:
- The title of your gig
- The category it falls into
- Relevant search tags (keywords)
Tips for optimizing your Fiverr gig
Don't skip this process. Keep the following in mind to write a compelling overview that will attract a potential client:
- Gig Title: You're only given 80 characters, so make it count and make sure it's clear and concise; you want your potential buyers to know exactly what you're offering. Also, write something that stands out from the crowd while keeping the title relatively original.
- Category: Based on your title, Fiverr will automatically suggest several categories and subcategories, and typically one will match your offering. However, if none of them are suitable, you're free to choose from a myriad of options in their menu. Find the category and subcategory that best fits your gig.
- Search tags: Enter the terms you think a buyer would be most likely to search for when looking for your service. You're only allowed five. These vary greatly depending on what you offer, so doing a little research on the most commonly searched terms in your category could be very helpful.
When finished, click the large green “Save and Continue” button at the bottom right of the screen to proceed to the next section.
Price your gig using packages

Gig pricing has evolved significantly since Fiverr's inception. The platform currently allows sellers to offer up to three different packages:
- Basic
- Standard
- Premium
Tips for optimizing your Fiverr packages
When filling out the pricing section, there are a few important things to keep in mind:
- Number of packages: You don't have to use all three packages, although many buyers appreciate the additional premium options, so offer them wherever possible. Additionally, according to Fiverr, those who offer three-gig packages can earn up to $641 more per order.
- Name your package: Choose a catchy title for each of your packages and make sure the distinction between them is clear. Package description: Briefly explain what's included in each package and why you included it. You're only allowed 100 characters here, so be creative to fit everything you want to say. Just make sure your offers are clear to all potential buyers.
- Delivery time: How long it will take you to complete a project. Depending on the scope of the work, this can vary significantly between packages.
- Revisions: The number of times you'll edit your work at the buyer's request. Premium packages often include additional revisions.
- Price: Each package can range in price from $$ 5 to $$ 995. Your base package should always be the lowest priced, and your premium package should be the highest. Remember, you can always adjust the price later, so it might be wise to keep it low at first to help build reviews.
- My Gig Extras: Here you can charge extra fees for any extras you'd like to add to your packages. There are some commonly used extras that can be selected from a menu, such as extra-fast delivery and additional revisions. If there's an extra you'd like to include but it's not available, Fiverr makes it easy to create your own. Just click the "+ Add gig extra" option at the bottom, where you'll fill in the title, description, and price.
Create your gig description and FAQs

Along with the title, the description is one of the most important aspects of creating a gig that will attract clients.
Here, you should go into detail about your offering. For this reason, the description has a minimum of 120 characters and a maximum of 1,200 characters. Don't leave out any important details, as your buyers should have a detailed enough description to determine whether or not what you offer will meet their needs.
Being too vague can lead to unhappy customers and negative feedback, potentially destroying future opportunities on this platform.
Once you've completed your description, the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section will follow. In this section, provide answers to the questions you expect to receive about your gig.
This will likely need to be revised later, as you may not know what many of your FAQs will be until your gig has been running for a while. Click the "+ Add FAQ" button to include all the FAQs you need.
Set your gig requirements
This is where you will include all the requirements your buyer needs to provide to complete the job.
You are given three different methods to ask for this information, including:
- Free text: With free text, you write your needs and the buyer is expected to respond via text message (e.g., size, weight, essay topic).
- Multiple Answer: This option allows you to ask a question and provide multiple answer options for the buyer to choose from. You need a minimum of two answers to choose from, and you can add more by simply clicking the "+ Add Optional Answer" button.
- File Attachment: If you require a file from your buyer to complete your work, choose this option. You'll need to specify what this file should include in the description box, and your buyer will be prompted to upload it at checkout.
You can add as many requirements as necessary by clicking the "+ Add another requirement" button that appears when you submit the first one. If responding to a requirement is optional, you must uncheck the "Required response" box.
Add a gallery to your gig

Your gig gallery can consist of photos, videos, and PDFs. The files you choose to include in your gallery should all be relevant to your gig offerings.
Tips for optimizing your gig gallery
- Gig Photos: Most listings will include a photo relevant to the service being sold, especially if it's a graphic design or web design gig. Even if the work isn't easily photographable, like writing, include a photo anyway. Just choose something relevant to the job, even if it's not necessarily a work sample. Fiverr allows up to three photos that can be dragged and dropped into your gallery. Make sure your images are free of plagiarism, otherwise your gig may not be approved.
- Video: Adding a video is optional, although it can be helpful. According to Fiverr, gigs that include a video receive up to $2001 in additional orders and enjoy $401 higher user engagement. Videos cannot exceed 75 seconds in length and cannot include personal contact.
- PDF Gig: These should only be used when further clarification is needed, and a PDF is the best format for this. This option is generally reserved for writers and others whose work samples are more likely to be in text PDF format. Fiverr allows you to attach two PDFs to each gallery.
Post your service on Fiverr
This is the last one, it is by far the fastest step to offer a service on Fiverr. Simply click the "Publish Gig" button and it will go live. Once live, your gig can be promoted through a social media platform, like Facebook or Twitter, simply by clicking the link provided. According to Fiverr, gigs promoted through social media platforms are up to three times more likely to sell, so it's a good idea to consider this option.

Get the most out of your services listed on Fiverr
Now that you've created your first service on Fiverr, comes the hard part: getting a client. Most buyers on this (or any) platform want to see reviews so they can judge the quality of your work. Initially, you'll have nothing more than a few examples uploaded to your gallery to show off.
Therefore, it's often a good idea to keep your prices low at the beginning to attract more clients and increase them once you've established yourself. You should also consider search engine optimization (SEO) for your gigs, as this is a great tool for driving organic traffic. Another successful tactic is to use your profile to establish yourself as a brand, helping you become a recognizable force for those who regularly browse Fiverr.
The best way to build your first gig on Fiverr?
